Bigger and Better!
The 11th year of the Taranaki Puanga Festival has come to an end after three days of events and the first ever Puanga title boxing match held a week earlier at the Waitara War memorial hall and Waitara Cliffton Park netball courts.
The te reo stage had over 60 participants, 50+ Kapa Haka teams took the stage over Thursday and Friday, the Puanga idols had a fabulous turn out as usual. This year we also had a variety of stalls selling hot food, Taniwha burgers, paua, ice cream, treats for the children and NO FIZZY Drinks to promote healthy lifestyles. There were fusion stations around the event (Fruit infused water) for people to freely fill water bottles and free yummy fresh fruit. Other stall holders selling clothing, jewelry, poi and other taonga were also present. Our sports day was a hit with many teams participating in the netball, touch and fun walk on Saturday. Needless to say the wind down after function held at the Bridge Bar and Cafe was a big hit with karaoke, darts and fun all night. The Taranaki Puanga festival committee are grateful to all the kaimahi (volunteers), kaiwhakawa (judges) and (Kaitautoko) sponsors this festival wouldn't be the same with out you all.
Stars, diva’s and amateurs to bring everything you’ve got to the stage and showcase your talent for family and friends of the community. Opportunity to win a cash prize!
We are continuing the Te Reo initiative that was started in 2008, 2009, 2010, and was a great success. Run along side the annual Puanga Festival.
